The Laurence Frank Wilmot collection. --

Warden of St. John's College, University of Manitoba, from 1950 to 1961, Reverend Canon Laurence Frank Wilmot commenced his studies at St. John's in 1925. He graduated in 1931 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Licence in theology. He served pastorates in Manitoba until 1942 when he became chaplain with the West Nova Scotia Regiment. Until 1945 he served overseas, then returned to Canada to prepare veterans for university entrance. He also studied at Yale and Harvard Summer schools, and completed a Bachelor of Divinity and an M.A. in Philosophy at the UM in 1948. He was sub-warden at St. Augustine's College, Canterbury, Kent, England, for several years, and was awarded a Doctorate in Philosophy from the University of Oxford. For several years he was staff psychologist in psychiatric hospitals in Houston, Texas, as well as in Washington and Whitby, Ont. In 1972, he returned to Winnipeg, became Coordinator of Continuing Education and was active in many community projects. He obtained a second M.A. in History in 1979, and was widely recognized as a noted scholar and author of several books, including Whitehaed and God: Prolegomena to Theological Reconstruction. The collections contains more than 50 diaries, day books, speeches, sermons, and extensive correspondence, including ca. 500 letters to Rev. Canon Wilmot's wife Hope during World War I. -- For hundreds of photographs dating from the 1890s to the 1990s documenting Wilmot's family, his student days, his career as a professor and warden at St. John's College, and as an Anglican minister, psychologist, writer, theologian and community worker.
